In this 3-hour course, attendees will review the origins and bases for Spaced Retrieval (SR), learn the basic steps for implementing the intervention, and study the most common mistakes made when using SR (as well as how to avoid them). Spaced retrieval has proven to be an effective intervention for reaching clinical goals for a variety of memory-impaired populations, including persons with dementia, traumatic brain injury, and other neurologic disorders. Additionally, the pragmatics of how to bill for applying SR, how to create a support system that enables referrals to be made, and how to sustain the effects of therapy will be provided. Learning Objectives

  • Understand the bases for why SR can be provided successfully to patient populations often characterized as being unable to learn new information.
  • Learn to avoid the most common pitfalls made when implementing SR.
  • Learn how to use SR in a professional capacity including how to successfully document and bill for services provided using SR and to create a supportive network among care staff and other disciplines so that SR and other services provided can be maintained.
