These videos are provided to support family caregivers, created by Center for Applied Research in Dementia in conjunction with the Geauga County Department on Aging & Jennings, with funding in part from a grant from The Cleveland Foundation Lake Geauga Fund. The videos are grouped into 3 sections, and can be viewed in any order.
Section 1: Using Strengths – In this section, we will look at abilities and strengths that are often retained despite the loss of other skills due to dementia. Examples are provided that suggest how to use those skills to circumvent deficits to encourage independence and engagement.
Section 2: Engaging Activities – Videos in this section reinforce the importance of meaningful activities, provide examples of purposeful activities, and how to make activities more accessible for persons living with dementia.
Section 3: Understanding Behavior – This section looks at 2 common responsive behaviors that accompany dementia and explores possible causes and interventions.
